Psalm 2 for January 2

January 2 2015 - Psalm 2

1 Why do the nations assemble with commotion and uproar and confusion, their competing voices a dull roar of chaos against God?  And why do the people imagine themselves to be in charge of this planet, meditating on the empty schemes they have devised?

For us to meditate on our own plans and empty schemes that put us as the centre of the universe is folly.  We roar in our human pride and little man made kings who exalt themselves and set themselves up as the little lords of power.  The core of all this is our pride.  We have not bent the knee.  When is the last time you and I got alone and kneeled before God?

2 The kings of the earth take their places.  The rulers of this world come together and stand against the Lord and his Anointed One--the Messiah, the Christ and they say, 3 “Let us break the bands of God’s restraint and cast off His control of us.

This is indeed what our generation has done.  We have walked away from the One who made us and Who loved us and Who sent His Son to die for us.  The cry of the human heart is “I am god” and God will not tell me how to live.  The first sin and the worst sin: Pride.

4 But He who sits in Heaven laughs.  He holds human pride in derision and in His supreme contempt He mocks human kings. 5 If men persist in their folly one day we will hear Him speak out of His anger and His voice will terrify them.  He will say: 6 I have anointed and installed my King.  He is on His Throne.  7 I will declare His decree.  He is my Son.  In Him I am well pleased.  8 He will ask me and I will answer by giving Him all the nations as His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the Earth as His possession.  9 He will decimate evil and human pride with a rod of iron and dash the evil men to pieces like potter’s clay.

Jesus is not going to stay that approachable little baby in the manger.  One day He will appear as the powerful Lord that He is, taking His Throne in Jerusalem and establishing His Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven.  No man will be able to argue their point or cling to their pathetic kingdoms any longer.  They will be removed from power and their greatest weapons will be shattered into dust.  The machine guns remodeled into plowshares, the weak made strong and the violence gone.
10  So you great and glorious human kings, Listen up!  Be instructed and warned now while you still have time.  Welcome Christ into your kingdoms.  Make Him the Lord of Your life.  11 Serve the Lord in reverence and awe.  Worship Him.  Rejoice and be in high spirits about the fact that He is a good King and serve Him.

12 Kiss the Son and pay homage to Him in purity.  Do not make Him angry in your pride.  Unless you want to see what His anger looks like. Blessed and hapy and fortunate are those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him.

If you embrace King Jesus you will have a blessed life where you live forever.  He will never disappoint you.  He is the King.  The Good King. The King we have all been waiting for.
