JANUARY 9 2015 - PSALM 9
I will be a thankful man. I will praise You, Lord for You have given me so much in this life. My heart is full. I will tell aloud the wonderful and great things You have done. 2 I will rejoice in You and I will sing to You. I will sing Your praises because You are something to sing about. 3 When I see my enemies flee before Your presence and stumble in panic before You, I say, “That is my God!”
For in Your justice, You have always been more than fair to me and You have been the strength in my cause. 5 You rebuke the nations who have chosen to side against You. The ones who are stiff necked in their pride will not be able to stand against You. Their names will be wiped out forever and ever, their regimes of evil will not stand the test of time.
The enemy of all that is good will be cut off from his life source. He will crumble like a ruined castle before You and sit there as a disintegrating pile of rubble. The enemy’s city has been ripped from its evil foundations. Their grand edifices lie in a forgotten heap of rocks. No one remembers them. 7 But Your reputation will shine like the sun forever and ever. You sit on Your Throne and no one will ever remove You from it. From your mighty seat of power You will perfectly execute judgment. You are right in all Your judgments of us. Fair every time.
You, O Lord will also be a refuge and a stronghold for the oppressed. A refuge in times of trouble. And those who know You and who have experienced Your precious mercy, will continue to put their confidence in You. 10 You have never abandoned me. You have never disappointed me. 11 That is why I will sing Your praise. To the King in Zion, I will sing. In the hearing of the people who surround me I will lift up a song of Your goodness and Your might. You are my God! I will say, “That is my God and my God did that!”
You will stick up for the innocent. The ones who flee disaster are on Your radar and for them You will exact justice. You will not forget their cries.
Have mercy on me and be gracious to me, O LORD. See how I am afflicted by sin in this world. See how the enemies of goodness hate me and torture me. You lift me up from the gates of death that I may shout Your praise. 14 Save me so I can sing Your praises loudly in Your city. I will rejoice in Your salvation. I will be glad that in the end You will help me. I know that help is on the way. 15 The consequences of evil’s actions will be the quicksand they sink in when it is time. Their own net will trip them up. 16 You will make Yourself know. You will execute judgement when the time is right. 17 The destination of the wicked who forget God is the land of the dead. 18 The poor will not be forgotten forever, their burdened will not perish in the end. You hold their hand.
Arise, O Lord, do not let these evil men prevail. Let the nations be judged by You and put in their place. Let them fear You and see Your might and tremble in their human frailty. May they remember they are mere mortals but You are God!
