Succinctly, WW 1984 is the kind of film we needed at the end of 2020. It is a fun period piece and a lesson about how messed up the world would be if everyone got what they wished for. It teaches us that short cuts aren’t worth it and that we have to be selfless to be the most effective in life.
Gal Gadot, Miss Israel herself, is growing in her acting skills and does a grand job being Diana/Wonder Woman—we see her get to be a real woman and not just a cliche Superhero. Chris Pine plays his role with all his Pine-ness and does a great job as well. The movie is just the right amount of escapism and develops Wonder Woman in a good way, adding to the legend. As a comic fan it was cool to see. The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) was great as a villain, and Kristen Wiig was a great choice as Barbara Minevera, a clumsy scientist turned bad guy and shows us how bitterness can wreck our lives.
Hans Zimmer, composer delivers one of his first orchestral scores in a while, instead of just using electronics to add music to the movie—I will say that I think he needs to re-learn the art of subtlety in scoring movies though. Sometimes he forgets that music invisibly enhances a scene and if it is too prominent and loud it can take away from a scene.
Patty Jenkins, the director, along with Geoff Johns, legendary DC Comic writer, have crafted a great moral tale and Jenkins delivers as a director with great action and emotional impact.
I was not disappointed and it was worth the money to rent it and have a night at the movies at home.
Overall I give this movie, which I enjoyed very much, a solid 7 out of 10. The first film was better.
